Throne
Product Design – Concept Development
This was a semester long project where I was paired with an Industrial Designer to create a product for the future of home. We were given a room in the house and a company to begin our ideation. My partner and I conceptualized Throne, a toilet system which acts as an early detection device for diseases by analyzing your waste, bodily behaviors, and overall health.
Duration: 3 months
Type: Partnered with industrial designer - Owen Chen
Context
The company we were assigned in order to draw out this concept was Slack, and the room we were designing for was the bathroom. Initially, we executed a brand audit for Slack to understand the company's values and then conducted multiple interviews with people regarding their bathroom behaviors.
Opportunity Areas
We drew insights and opportunity areas from the interviews, the three main ones revolving around: Efficiency in the bathroom (Get Going), self care while in the private environment of the bathroom (Body Awareness), and using the bathroom as a means of relaxation (Break Time).
We decided to go with Body Awareness for the product development.
The Concept
Since we decided to go with the opportunity area focusing around health, our ideation leaned towards creating a product which could serve as as a means of managing and bettering the well being of our users. We came up with Throne. We imagined the Throne to be a device which could help people with early detection of diseases as well as being a tool for tracking and achieving health goals one might want to set. The Throne is equipped with multiple sensors which can inform users about their current conditions and then provide valuable information such as taking proper steps in the correction of diet and improvement of health.
We also decided to incorporate ThroneBot into our concept as an AI which would provide tips, recommendations, and notifications from the app.
The UI
Animations
For the sake of privacy we decided that key waste analysis information would only be displayed on the toilet screen during live sessions, while the tracking and long term learning of bodily behaviors would be incorporated into the phone application.
These animations were created in Keynote.
